SPF and Water Resistant Testing
Evaluation of sun protection by SPF determination (FDA) and water resistant resting
Panels convened to evaluate the effectiveness of a Love Sun Body sunscreen products by determining the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) on human skin as defined by the FDA Sunscreen Final Rule; using a Xenon arc solar simulator as the UV source. This test was conducted prior to and immediately following an 80-minute water immersion experiment which was carried out under controlled conditions as described in the FDA Sunscreen Final Rule.
The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of the test material Love Sun Body SPF 30 Fragrance-Free, when tested as described herein under static conditions yielded the mean SPF value of 33.05. When tested as described herein under 80-minute water resistant conditions yielded the mean SPF value of 31.53.
The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of the test material Love Sun Body SPF 30 Love Sun Body SPF 30 Scented, when tested as described herein under static conditions yielded the mean SPF value of 33.90. When tested as described herein under 80-minute water resistant conditions yielded the mean SPF value of 31.47.
The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of the test material Love Sun Body SPF 50 Fragrance-Free, when tested as described herein under static conditions yielded the mean SPF value of 57.13. When tested as described herein under 80-minute water resistant conditions yielded the mean SPF value of 52.45.
The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of the test material Love Sun Body SPF 50 Scented, when tested as described herein under static conditions yielded the mean SPF value of 57.68. When tested as described herein under 80-minute water resistant conditions yielded the mean SPF value of 52.55.
All Love Sun Body formulas are water resistant for up to the maximum-allowable claim of 80 minutes (per FDA guidelines)
All Love Sun Body sunscreens passed and exceed the 'Water Resistant (80 minute)' independent tests to prove they retain their stated SPF while swimming or sweating.
